Late nineteenth to early twentieth century
In old Nicosia we began to examine not only famous monuments but also ordinary houses of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The doors interested us most.
The year of construction can often be read in the metal pattern above an entrance. We found and photographed the dates 1893, 1915 and 1921. A simple walk thus becomes a hunt for historical numbers that works especially well with children.
The dates 1893, 1915 and 1921 in the metalwork turn ordinary façades into documents of urban history and allow a child to assemble a small chronology of a street independently.
