Seventeenth century
The Holy Cross monastic complex stands in the centre of Omodos village, in the foothills of Troodos, on the road between Limassol and the mountain villages.
According to tradition, Saint Helena founded the monastery and left a fragment of the Holy Cross here. Documentary evidence for the complex belongs to a later period, and the existing architecture developed over several centuries.
The church venerates a cross containing a fragment of the True Cross, the skull of the Apostle Philip and relics of various saints. We examine the façade, long arcades, inner courtyard and carved iconostasis.
