Eleventh to sixteenth centuries
The churches are scattered among mountain villages, so we do not try to visit all of them in one day. It is better to choose one valley and two or three churches.
From the outside, the low timber roofs give little warning of the wealth of frescoes inside; the whole impression is built on this contrast.
At the sites we focus on specific reference points: the ten UNESCO churches, three roof types, the UNESCO sign and a realistic route for one day.
