Sixteenth century
The monastery at Orounta is associated with the sixteenth century. Information about the community in our early notes refers to the time of our visit.
We briefly recount the life of Saint Nicholas: he was born at Patara in Lycia, became bishop of Myra, performed miracles and took part in the Council of Nicaea. In western tradition, his name gradually became part of the figure of Santa Claus.
