45–49 CE
Around 45–49 CE the apostles Paul and Barnabas visited Paphos. According to Christian tradition, the Roman proconsul Sergius Paulus converted to Christianity here.
We photographed the column and the archaeological complex associated with this episode. For us, it marks the transition from the island’s Roman history to early Christianity.
At the site we focus on specific reference points: Saint Paul’s Pillar, the Chrysopolitissa Basilica, the apse and the route of the apostles.
