Around 320 BCE
According to the information we recorded at the time, King Nikokles founded the harbour of Nea Paphos around 320 BCE and built the monumental tombs.
During Roman rule, from the middle of the first century BCE, Paphos was the capital of the island. The photographs show rock-cut underground chambers and the colonnaded courtyards of the Tombs of the Kings.
At the site we focus on specific reference points: Doric columns, a courtyard below ground level, burial niches and the idea of a “house for the dead”.
